ADCSAP-Uganda currently operates in eight districts of the Ruwenzori region in western Uganda namely Kabarole, Bunyangabu, Kyenjojo, Ntoroko, Kyegegwa, Kamwenge, Kasese, and Bundibugyo.

Why We Formed ADCSAP-Uganda

It was after meeting a baby girl aged 7 months at the time in 2015 who was born with complications in her both eyes which later led to the removal of her eyes. This baby was later abandoned by both parents and left with a caretaker. The baby was abandoned because of her condition, gender based violence and poverty in her family. To cut the story short, it was this story that hatched the genesis of ADCSAP- Uganda. A team of six members was mobilized to start supporting the girl and also addressing other social problems in our local communities affecting families in the Rwenzori Region.

In the recent days our homes have become unsafe because of increasing ills such as gender based violence, high disease prevalence, child abuse, high rates of divorce, rebellion among children and weak social support systems. This has led many children to live in poverty, on streets, and drop out of school endangering them which has also led to high cases of teenage mothers and early marriages.

In Uganda, according to The Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS), 2012/2013 indicates that up to 100,000 children live outside a protective family environment. These include 25,000 children living under child-headed families, 62,000 living under residential care, and 3000 living on the streets, mainly attributed to poverty among our local communities. Some of these children end up adopting detrimental coping strategies such as drug and substance abuse, transactional sex and involvement in criminal activities.

It’s from this background that led to the formation of ADCSAP-Uganda to try and close the gap after identifying the need to unlock the potential that, families have to create sustainable development and this is done by supporting families to deliver the very best outcomes for children. We believe that children are most relevant resource for the success of the next generation.

ADCSAP Guiding Principles

  1. Holistic Development of Children in a family: ADCSAP-Uganda Programs are designed in such a way that all the development domains (physical, mental, social, emotional and linguistic) of a child are taken care of. These domains are interwoven, complimentary and of equal importance. The development of one domain will affect another. Programs pay attention to the differentiated developmental needs across the different stages including parental and conception, zero to three to five, six to eight and up to 18 years of age as well as parent education and support for caretakers.
  2. Equity in access to ADCSAP-Uganda Services: ADCSAP-Uganda programs are directed to all communities irrespective of gender, geographical location, race, tribe among others. Equal emphasis will be given to the development of both girl and boy child and all forms of gender discrimination are avoided. Children that are differently abled are also given adequate opportunities to develop to their fullest potential.
  3. Family and Community Engagement: Families, parents and caregivers have the primary mandate for the care and upbringing of young children. Family is the first line of response in ADCSAP service delivery. ADCSAP programs actively engage and empower families and communities to participate and own programs for the care
